Nach einem weiteren langen Universitätstag ging es am Mittwoch zusammen mit dem Hikingclub der Geologie Fakultät in eine Lavahöhle nahe des Sees Þingvallavatn.
Wir starteten 18:30 Uhr an einem sehr unscheinbaren Eingang. Dieser verbarg jedoch eine der längsten Höhlen des Gebietes. Insgesamt erstreckte sich unsere Höhle über 700 m. Wofür wir etwa 3 Stunden benötigten. In dieser Zeit erlebten wir in der Lavahöhle verschiedenste bizarre Gesteinsformen, Bakterienmatten, junge Stalaktiten. Außerdem kamen sehr enge Passagen vor, in denen man kriechend sich durchzwängen musste und gleichzeitig gab es auch große Kathedralen. Insgesamt ein supergeführter Höhlentrip von unsrem Geologie Guide.
Leider habe ich während des Trips eine falsche Kameraeinstellung verwendet, womit nicht viele Bilder sehenswert geworden sind. Doch ein paar gibt es hier.

After another university day, the hiking club of the geology department and 10 other people went to a lava cave which is located next to Þingvallavatn. We started in the evening. Therefore, in this season, it is already dark outside at 5 p.m. Huge winds were outside, but this doesn't matter in a cave!
We started at half past seven to enter the cave. Just in the beginning, our guide switched on his gas lamp at his helmet. A nice tool! This gas lamp work's because of a chemical reaction of a grounded stone with water. The gases go through a rubber tube to the helmet and at the exit, the gases are oxidized.
Our trip through this app. 700 m long the lava cave took us about 3 h. During this time, we experienced a lot of lava stone formations, bacterial mats, young stalactites and difficult passages and huge empty domes. A nice trip with a very good guide (he's a geologist)!
