Lapland in polar nights

In a short but intense, beautiful, snow-rich and calm back-country skiing trip with my two friends Larissa and Liisa from Finland, we tried to circulate close to the Finnish - Russian border during January 2018 (02.- 08.01.2019).

We didn't completed the almost 100 km from Sevettijärvi to Utsjoki in the Kaldoaivi national park. The main reasons had been bad snow conditions and additionally my even worse prepared and heavy wooden pulka. In the end, we had an unforgettable stay in the cold and charming Lapland winter.

The first nights, we slept completely outdoors.

You quickly become used to, going with a headlamp in the afternoon or early morning

Checking the right direction is always necessary. There are plenty of lakes around - looking quite similar.
